Road Work to Impact Traffic on Highway 52 North of Freeway

A Colorado Department of Transportation storm drainage repair project will impact traffic on State Highway 52 just north of Interstate 76 starting Tuesday, Jan. 10.

The area affected is on the west side of Highway 52 across from Riverside Park, between the freeway and the river. This section of the highway has seen several sinkholes and washouts after major storm and flooding events in recent years, and the project is aimed at eliminating those impacts by replacing existing storm drainage pipes with larger pipes.

Drivers should expect delays during the project, which is scheduled to continue into March. Shoulder closures, single-lane traffic patterns and traffic shifts, and reductions in the speed limit are all expected to be part of the project, according to CDOT.

The project is contracted by CDOT with the City of Fort Morgan assisting in general coordination of the work. The regular working hours for the project will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional night and weekend work possible as needed, according to CDOT.

Detours and other traffic control signage will be posted and motorists are warned to obey all traffic control signs and devices. Restrictions on oversize vehicles are expected in the project area.
