Presidential Inauguration Exhibit Now Open at Museum

The ‚ÄúPresidential Inaugurations‚ÄĚ exhibit is now open in the Fort Morgan Museum lower gallery.

“Presidential Inaugurations” is an exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution that includes information and displays on the inaugurations of U.S. presidents from George Washington to Gerald Ford. The exhibit focuses on inaugural speeches, parades, balls and public participation.

The inauguration of the President of the United States is a ceremony to mark the commencement of a new four-year term of a president. An inauguration ceremony takes place for each term of a president, even if the president continues in office for a second term.

The only inauguration element mandated by the United States Constitution is that the president make an oath or affirmation before that person can “enter on the Execution” of the office of the presidency.  However, over the years, various traditions have arisen that have expanded the inauguration from a simple oath-taking ceremony to a day-long event including parades, speeches and balls.

The exhibit is free and open to the general public. For more information, contact the Library / Museum at (970) 542-4000.
