Fort Morgan’s annual transformation to the Christmas Capital of the Plains is under way and events and activities will continue downtown through most of December.
Snowzilla, the monstrous inflatable plastic sledding hill, is scheduled to arrive on Monday, Nov. 27. The 100 block of East Beaver Ave., just south of City Park, will be closed for the duration of Snowzilla’s run, which is scheduled to continue through at least Dec. 16.
The holiday season will really start in earnest with the lighting of the city Christmas tree in City Park followed by the Chamber Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30. After that, each Saturday and Thursday evening through Dec. 23 will feature Christmas Capital events and activities in the downtown area.
The full schedule of events can be found on the Christmas Capital of the Plains Facebook page. Some of the highlights will be the Rotary Club Chili/Soup Cookoff on Saturday, Dec. 2; a Christmas tree sale and the City of Fort Morgan’s “Golf in December” at City Park on Saturday, Dec. 9; and Media Logic Radio’s ice sculpting contest on Saturday, Dec. 16.
Snowzilla is scheduled to be open Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Dec. 16.
