City now has prescription drug drop box available every weekday.
For a number of years the Fort Morgan Police Department has operated a special dropoff location during the observances of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Another one of these national take-back campaigns is scheduled for Saturday, April 28. This year, however, FMPD officers will not be stationed near the local hospital to collect unwanted and unused medications because the City of Fort Morgan now has a medication drop box that is accessible any weekday during normal business hours.
The medication drop box was installed in the lobby area of the Fort Morgan Police Department about a year ago. The police station is at 901 E. Beaver Ave in Fort Morgan and the lobby is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinets and dispose of expired or unused prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs. Most homes have a supply of unwanted drugs that when left unchecked can be misused or abused by unauthorized individuals.
Before dropping off drugs, citizens are asked to mark out any personal information on bottles or containers, or empty the unneeded medications into a Ziploc bag for disposal.
