Donations Help FMPD Focus on Youth Safety

Contributions from local businesses are helping the Fort Morgan Police Department with safety efforts specifically targeting school-aged youths.

The FMPD has received slightly over $3,000 in generous donations from 15 local businesses to participate in a program with the National Child Safety Council (NCSC) based in Jackson, Mich. Those contributions will purchase safety materials for every school-aged child in Fort Morgan.

“This is a wonderful program funded by gifts from local businesses and citizens that promotes safety among our community’s children,” FMPD Chief of Public Safety Paul Schultz said.

Examples of the safety material are pamphlets and brochures that show the dangers of using drugs, joining gangs and other high-risk behavior.

If any local business or resident wishes to participate they can send a check to the Fort Morgan Police Department payable to the National Child Safety Council. The checks are then mailed to the NCSC national headquarters and the police department can select educational items focusing on safety from their catalog for distribution to local school children.

“We started this program last year and in the last two years thousands of dollars in safety material have been distributed to youth throughout Fort Morgan,” Schultz said. “We are greatly appreciative of the community’s support in protecting our children.”
