UPDATED: Murder Suspect Shot by Deputies Outside Local Walmart

A suspect who was wanted in a double homicide case in New Mexico was shot by Morgan County law enforcement officers Thursday morning in the parking lot of the Fort Morgan Walmart store.

UPDATE AS OF 9:45 A.M. FRIDAY, MAY 25:

The suspect has been identified as Dustin Brian Montano, 31, of Sterling, Colo. As of this time, his condition is still critical, according to medical staff at Medical Center of the Rockies.

City Manager Placed on Administrative Leave

Fort Morgan City Manager Jeff Wells was placed on paid administrative leave by a split vote of the City Council on Wednesday night.

Seven Arrests in Pair of Drug-Related Searches

Seven people were arrested Monday when the Fort Morgan Police Department, with the assistance of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Brush Police Department and Sterling Police Department, served two search warrants for drug-related incidents.

The Morgan County SWAT Team, combined with members of the Sterling SWAT Team, served a search warrant at 533 Cove Lane, during which several arrests were made.

Family Movie Night at Library Thursday, May 31

The Fort Morgan Public Library will hold a family movie night on Thursday, May 31, starting at 6 p.m. The Disney movie “Cars 3” will be shown and all ages are welcome to attend.

Snacks will be served during the movie and patrons are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring pillows and blankets.

Senior Trip to View Dead Sea Scrolls

A visit to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to view the new exhibit on the Dead Sea Scrolls is planned for Thursday, June 21, by the Fort Morgan Recreation Department.

The trip is for seniors age 55 and up and only 14 spots are available, Registration will be first come, first served, and the deadline to sign up is June 16. The cost is $20 per person not including lunch.

Electric Line Rebuild to Start in Early June

Beginning in early June, the Fort Morgan Light and Power Department will be rebuilding a main transmission line and the project could potentially cause unexpected power outages.

Railroad Avenue Work to Move to Next Phase

Traffic disruptions will continue along Railroad Avenue for most of the month of May as the water main line under the street is replaced.
