In addition to imposing fines and costs, the judge may require a defendant's appearance at classes, counseling or evaluations, or community service as a condition of probation. The probation officer provides clients with referrals to appropriate agencies and monitors attendance and compliance with the terms and conditions of probation imposed by Court orders.
Failure to comply with probation terms and conditions may result in the revocation of probation and the imposition of sentence, including the possibility of a jail sentence. Any questions about what the judge has ordered and what the probation officer's expectations are should be clarified before leaving the Probation office.
