Electrical Distribution
The Light and Power Department maintains the electric distribution and transmission system within an area of approximately 25 square miles. The City has approximately 6,000 electric meters within the City and 150 meters outside the City limits, including providing service to several irrigation wells. The City has approximately 7.5 miles of 115 KV transmission system and approximately 90 miles of 12.5 KV distribution system. Approximately one-third of the City's electric system is underground.

Electric Rates & Supply
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission governs the City for fairness in rates and regulations for all electric customers.  The City's primary electric suppliers are Western Area Power Association (WAPA) and Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN).

About Light and Power
A recent survey by the Colorado Association of Municipal Utilities ranks Fort Morgan with having among the lowest electric rates in the state out of 57 utilities surveyed. The survey included municipal, investor-owned, and rural electric cooperatives within Colorado.

The City of Fort Morgan's Light and Power Department is 100% citizen-owned and entirely debt-free, a rare achievement for municipal electric utilities. City electric rates are some of the lowest in the state all while the Light and Power Department maintains a very reliable distribution system.
