On the morning of August 5th, police responded to a report of a burglary that occurred sometime during the previous evening.

Officers were called to 201 Ensign Street by an employee who found the glass door to the business had been broken and someone had entered the building.

Once inside investigating officers discovered drawers and cupboards had been searched by someone and an inside door had also been forced open causing additional damage. Officers discovered and collected evidence that may be used to identify a suspect in the future, but there are no suspects at this time.

Other areas of the building also appeared to have been tampered with, perhaps in an attempt to gain entrance into the building prior to breaking the glass in the door.

Theft of cash and damage to the doors totaled over $1,000 dollars. Burglary of an unoccupied building is a class 3 felony and if convicted a person could be sentenced to prison from four to twelve years.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on this or other crimes is asked to call the Fort Morgan Police Department at (970) 867-5678. If a person with information wishes to remain anonymous they can call Crime Stoppers at (970) 542-3411 and may be eligible for a cash reward or submit your tip online.
