Fort Morgan Ranked 16th Safest City in Colorado

The City of Fort Morgan was ranked as the 16th safest city in Colorado in a recent report by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

The ratings are based on public crime data supplied by the FBI, and cover the year of 2018. Fort Morgan moved up three places in the rankings, from 19th safest in 2017, according to FMPD Chief of Public Safety Paul Schultz.

No other cities from northeast Colorado were listed in the top 30 safest cities, Schultz said, meaning Fort Morgan is the safest city in the region.

Schultz attributed the improved safety rating to the hard work of all members of the Fort Morgan Police Department. In 2018 there were several examples of excellent work done by the police department, he said.

Chief Schultz stated that the department expects to reduce crime even further in Fort Morgan in 2019. One of the priorities will be drug enforcement, and the department plans to apply for a grant to start a Morgan County Drug Task Force in conjunction with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and the Brush Police Department.
