Online Crime Reporting Program Expanded

A number of new types of crimes have been added to the new Fort Morgan Police Department program that allows citizens to file certain police reports at their convenience without requiring the response of an officer.

The online crime reporting program is designed to cover minor incidents and low-level crimes that have a small likelihood of being solved. When first launched last month, the program allowed citizens to report minor theft, vandalism, lost property, phone harassment and internet crime

The additional types of crimes now reportable online include theft from a vehicle, suspicious incident, trespassing and civil matters.

Incidents must meet certain criteria to be filed online; if the incident does not fall within these criteria then an officer will respond to take the report. Reports submitted online will be received by the police department records clerks, who will review them to ensure an officer does not need to respond.

The online crime reporting form can be found on the Police Department page of the city’s website at The link to the form is in the middle of the PD page under “Quick Links” and is labeled “Report a Crime Online.”

Reporting minor crimes like this will assist the FMPD in developing and maintaining an accurate database of crime statistics in the city, and also help to identify and analyze trends in certain types of crimes. The information gained through the online reporting program will also be used in crime mapping, which is already being done by the FMPD.

It is hoped that the online program will provide the FMPD with information on crimes that might otherwise go unreported.

The Fort Morgan Police Department encourages citizen feedback regarding this new program. The department will make additional changes and adjustments to the program as time goes on and according to the feedback received.
