Sherman Street is scheduled to be closed to all traffic for two blocks north of Platte Avenue on Monday, May 20, as water line work is completed.
The intersection of Sherman and East Sixth Avenue must be shut down for the majority of the day starting around 8 a.m. while city crews install valves and make improvements on the Sixth Avenue water main.
This closure will prevent direct travel from East Platte Avenue/US 34 to East Seventh Avenue on Sherman, and from Simpson Street to Warner Street on East Sixth. Detour signage will be in place and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
There will be some water service interruptions to the surrounding area during this project but those residents and businesses affected will be notified separately. This work is being done now to stay ahead of the Strictly for Street paving projects that will be ongoing this summer on Sherman.
This and other construction projects under way around Fort Morgan are part of the city’s ongoing capital improvement plan, which is aimed at continually investing in infrastructure such as streets, water and sewer lines, parks and other public amenities. City officials appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during the periods of inconvenience caused by these necessary upgrades.
