The crime rate in Fort Morgan is down more than 42 percent for the first two quarters of 2019, compared to the same time period in 2018, according to the Fort Morgan Police Department.
The FMPD recorded 107 instances of “Part One Crimes” in the first half of this year, Chief of Public Safety Paul Schultz said. Schultz attributed the substantial decrease to the department’s emphasis on community policing and “extra efforts” by FMPD officers.
“We will be continuing to focus on reducing the crime rate to make Fort Morgan even a safer city,” Schultz said.
Part One Crimes include offenses such as theft, motor vehicle theft, robbery, burglary, shoplifting, arson, assault, sexual assault and homicide.
The number of Part One offenses in the first half of 2018 was 185, while 2017 saw 184 such offenses in the first two quarters.
