Work of Photographer Dennis Lauck Set for Museum

“Passages,” an exhibition of photographs by Dennis Lauck, will go on display from Aug. 3 through Oct. 22 in the Lower Gallery exhibit space at the Fort Morgan Museum.

In 2020 the Fort Morgan Museum’s temporary exhibit space is highlighting works of local artists. Although briefly interrupted by the pandemic, the schedule is back on track with this photographic exhibit. “Passages” is the work of retired San Diego architect and amateur photographer Dennis Lauck, who was born and raised in rural Morgan County.

Two years in the making, the exhibit displays photos taken over a 50-year period from 14 countries around the world, beginning in the early 1970s during a Peace Corps tour in Colombia and ending with a recent photographic shoot in Morgan County. The 64 photos are in 29 groups of two and three to be compared and contrasted. Fifteen of the photos were taken in the Morgan County area.

The exhibit explores not the places we’ve been or the places we will be, but rather, in a Mindfulness way, the “Passages” in between that we experience in the moment. They are Physical passages in streets, pathways, trails, waterways, bridges; Visual passages through doorways, windows, archways; and Abstract passages of time and spirit.

The dominant and more currently relevant theme is that all of us around the world, regardless of superficial differences, have more that unifies us than should separate us. We are all on the same journey through the same passages. Any differences on our journeys are just features of interest.
