Fort Morgan police are looking into an attempted theft of a motor vehicle that caused major damage to the owner’s truck.
Police were called to the 600 block of Lincoln Street on November 16th on a report of damage that had been caused to an automobile. Officers speaking with the owner of the vehicle learned the Chevy S10 pickup had been parked in the garage overnight.
The following morning, the owner discovered someone had forced their way into the garage and damaged the locking mechanism and steering column of the truck. It appeared the burglar may have been attempting to hotwire the vehicle, and in doing so caused an estimated $2,000 dollars in damage.
Several items were left behind by the suspect. Those items were collected by police and will be tested for additional evidence.
Officers are also following up on possible leads in the case regarding who may have had an interest in stealing the vehicle but are seeking additional information from the public
