Fort Morgan Police are investigating several thefts around Fort Morgan where a thief stole items from unlocked vehicles like the Grinch that tries to steal Christmas.
Several residents reported last week that while their cars were parked at their residences overnight, someone got into the vehicles and stole electronics and music CDs with value totaling more than $1,000. In one case, the stereo was recovered lying on the ground a short distance away.
In other cases a GPS system, CDs and an MP3 player were stolen and not recovered. In all of the thefts, the vehicles were believed to have been left unlocked.
Since several of the thefts were near one another it is most likely that a single crook, walking through the neighborhood, was pulling on vehicle door handles until they found unlocked cars to rummage through.
These types of thefts are crimes of opportunity that can be avoided, if residents remove the temptation by locking doors and removing valuables from their vehicles. While Christmas will come just the same, don’t let a Grinch steal your electronics this holiday season.
