Credit Card Fraud

On January 22nd Fort Morgan police took a report of a fraud that could have cost the victims $1,598 dollars. Fortunately they alerted the proper authorities and averted any personal losses.
The reporting parties in this case received a statement from an electronics store indicating they had a charge of $99 dollars. The store was one the intended victims had never purchased anything from.Acting quickly, they contacted their credit card company and discovered an additional $99 dollar charge as well as two $700 dollar purchases to the same store.
The card owners were able to have the charges to their account reversed and they were issued new credit accounts with different numbers. The Federal Trade Commission suggests some tips for avoiding credit card fraud.
1. Carry your cards separately from your wallet, in a zippered compartment, a business card holder, or another small pouch2. Keep an eye on your card during the transaction, and get it back as quickly as possible.
3. Report any questionable charges promptly and in writing to the card issuer.4. Don’t Give out your account number over the phone unless you're making the call to a company you know is reputable.

If you think you are a victim of credit card fraud, call your card company immediately. It may also be advisable to report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
