[ARCHIVED] Vehicle Fire Purposely Set

February 7, 2011
Weekly Crime Information Alert
By Community Resource Officer Roger Doll

On the evening of January 3, police were called to the 400 block of East Railroad Avenue on a report of a truck that was on fire. Officers were immediately suspicious because the flames were in the bed of the truck, not the engine compartment or passenger cab.

Officers were able to put out the blaze using fire extinguishers and recognized the remnants of a gas can in the bed of the truck. Police believe the fire had been ignited using fuel from the can.

Upon closer inspection officers also noticed that gasoline had also been poured inside the cab of the truck but had failed to catch fire, leaving a strong odor of gas in the cab of the truck. It appeared that fuel from the can may have been poured into the passenger compartment through an open window.

Police are investigating the case as arson and have collected evidence but do not have any suspects at this time. Police would like to speak with anyone who has information about this case.
