The Gene Doty Senior Center will host a Do-It-Yourself Anti-Inflammatory Workshop in the afternoon on Thursday, Sept. 29.
The session will be presented by guest speaker and Holistic Home Health Owner Madeline Hagan. She will teach seniors firsthand how to make their own pain salve for body aches on joints and muscles, using household items or products easily found at the grocery store. Some pain salves and creams can be costly and ineffective, but you can make your own natural products at little cost.
Along with the salve, Hagan will present a drink known as “golden milk.” Made from coconut milk, turmeric and other spices, this warm beverage is a home remedy for inflammation such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, lower back pain, neck pain and common muscle aches.
The ingredients used contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that drinking this milky drink regularly can not only reduce inflammation but also improve mood, prevent cell damage, support brain function and improve memory, while lowering blood sugar and boosting the body’s immune system.
The workshop is requesting registration for those who are interested in participating. The registration deadline is Sept. 26, and all materials will be provided. The DIY workshop will begin at 1 p.m. and is expected to last until 4 p.m. For questions and information call (970) 542-3922.
