[ARCHIVED] 'Tis the Season for Thefts

Weekly Crime Information Alert
By Community Resource Officer Roger Doll

With the approaching holidays, it’s easy to forget there are others out there waiting to spoil your merriment. Over the next few weeks, many people will be spending a day or two shopping. The Fort Morgan Police Department would like to remind residents to always lock their vehicle doors.

This is typically the time of year when thefts from vehicles increase. Many times shoppers going from store to store leave their purchases in the back seat as they move to a new shopping location. Unfortunately this is an invitation for thieves to steal your packages.

Fort Morgan has experienced a recent wave of thefts in which items were stolen from vehicles. In most cases the vehicles were left unlocked and valuables were in plain sight. It is best to always secure your belongings out of sight and lock all the vehicle’s doors.

If you witness a theft in progress, call 911. If you have information about a crime, call Crime Stoppers at (970) 542-3411. By calling Crime Stoppers you can remain anonymous and your tip may be worth a cash reward.
