Weekly Crime Information Alert
By Community Resource Officer Roger Doll

Thieves Target Unlocked Vehicles
Fort Morgan Police are looking into several thefts that occurred during a period between January 14 and 15 in the northeast part of town. The victims all live within several streets of each other along the 800 and 900 blocks of Simpson, Lincoln and Prospect Streets.

The victims had miscellaneous items stolen from their vehicles including golf clubs, a stereo, cash, keys, and a GPS unit. In all, the value of stolen items exceeded $2,400.

One thing the victims had in common was that they left their vehicle doors unlocked. Police suspect that the same person or group of people committed the crimes. Officers located footprints from several of the crime scenes that appear to have been made by the same shoe.

Many thefts are a crimes of opportunity and residents can help keep themselves from becoming victims by taking a few precautions, including locking their vehicle doors and removing valuables from their automobiles while they are away.
