[ARCHIVED] Power Outage Affects City Residents Tuesday

Some Fort Morgan residents experienced a brief power outage late Tuesday morning, but power was restored to all customers within about a half-hour.

Municipal Engineer Brad Curtis said the power went out about 11:40 am and was restored within about 30 minutes. City Light & Power Dept. crews were out performing maintenance on an electric substation east of town when the first calls came in about the loss of power.

The outage originated at a different substation and was not related to the maintenance work, Curtis said.

It was determined that birds around the lightning arrestors at the City's south substation had caused the circuit breakers to trip. The south substation generally serves all customers south of Burlington Ave. as well as the area along North Main St. and a few other segments of the City.

City staffers from other departments in the City Complex were sent to help in the Utility Billing Dept. during the outage because of the large volume of calls about the interruption in the power supply.
