How long does my child need to be in a car seat?
Regardless of age, restrain your child in a car seat or booster seat until they are about 57” tall (4’ 9”). A child’s height is the best predictor of proper seat belt fit. A car seat with a “5-point” harness
system is best for a child until they are at least 40 pounds. Keep child rear-facing as long as car seat allows. Children over 40 pounds and under 57” (4’ 9”) in height must continue to ride in a child restraint or booster seat.
