Street Department

Responsibilities

The Street Department maintains City streets, alleys, and several other City-owned properties. There are approximately 50 miles of streets that they are responsible for maintaining. Department responsibilities include:
  • Street patching
  • Street painting
  • Crack sealing
  • Pothole repair
  • Roadway weed control
Contractors are used for large street reconstruction and overlay projects. The department is also responsible for the removal of snow and ice during the winter months, and field operations and maintenance of all traffic signs on City streets.

The department strives to ensure the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists on public streets to the extent possible with signs and pavement markings.

Annual Christmas Tree Recycling

Each year, Christmas trees (all decorations removed) may be dumped at a site located on Railroad Avenue just east of the City Hall Complex. The City informs citizens when trees will be accepted with a notice in the local newspaper.
