PROJECT INFORMATION
Original construction of the existing Riverside Park pool was started in 1947, and its current features are approaching the end of their life cycle, with substantial operational and replacement cost impacts.
In order to continue providing quality aquatic recreation, the Fort Morgan City Council appointed a committee of staff and community members to explore the feasibility of a new community aquatics center. The city’s vision is that a new aquatics facility with indoor year-round use would be constructed adjacent to the city’s existing Recreation Fieldhouse
Because the city is not financially capable of operating or staffing two aquatics facilities, it is anticipated that the Riverside pool would close if and when a new indoor facility is completed.
The cost of a new indoor facility is enormous, and undertaking this project would require a vote of the city council to seek voter approval of a new 1 percent sales tax to fund construction and operation of the pool. Then an affirmative vote by city voters would be required to move forward.
The aquatic facility committee has retained a team of architects, engineers, designers, and other expert consultants to conduct a feasibility study of the proposed project, provide conceptual design for the building, and show how it ties into the existing Recreation Fieldhouse.
An important aspect of the study is community engagement. The design team and City of Fort Morgan will host outreach events throughout the feasibility and design process to collect input from the community on what they would like to see reflected in the design. Multiple surveys, outreach events at community gatherings, and numerous other methods of obtaining your opinions and preferences are expected in coming weeks and months.
