City Manager
Brent Nation has served as the City of Fort Morgan City Manager since September 2022. His tenure with the city began in 2012 as director of utilities, during which time he filled in as director of public works as needed. His prior experience in the private consulting sector spanned 22 years.
Throughout his career with the City of Fort Morgan, Brent has modeled steady leadership and active guidance to provide excellence in service by fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
The city manager is responsible for building relationships with external organizations that help shape the community and set the path forward. As such, Brent serves as the city’s designated representative on the Board of Directors for the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN). He is also involved in the Colorado Municipal League (CML) and the City of Fort Morgan Water Planning and Advisory Board.
All city staff report to the city manager, except the police department, fire department, city attorney’s office, and municipal judge. The city manager reports to the mayor and city council and collaborates with the director team to inspire employees with a common vision that enables clear communication, trust, and shared purpose to advance city council directives and deliver first-rate service to the residents of Fort Morgan.
Brent grew up in Fort Morgan and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University. He is a season ticket holder to the CSU Rams football team and enjoys occasional travel and taking in an Avalanche game.
